My weight loss journey continues and this week I logged a great success, although Weight Watchers yelled at me for losing too much! Ha! I don't know why you lose more one week than another, especially when your activity and food intake levels are nearly the same, but it happens. At any rate, I am thrilled to say I lost another 3.8 pounds this week! That's delicious news. I am also happy to say I remain motivated and am getting excited for the summer months ahead. Woohoo!

Yes! I've lost 19.4 pounds so far!

Continued Success

I didn't get a chance to post my results for last week, but I lost .8 pounds, and today I logged another loss of 1.4 pounds, bringing my total weight loss so far to 15.6 pounds. The weight loss has definitely slowed since the first two weeks, but I knew that was going to be the case. Now, I am in the long stretch to achieve my 10% loss and ultimately my goal weight.

I am losing the expected amount, on average, and am happy that I have been able to continue losing each week, even if only a little. I attended a blow out St. Patrick's Day party on Saturday where I consumed an entire day's worth of points (even eating WW recipes!) in one evening. The food was awesome and the drinks were great, but I was able to balance that day with 29 activity points for the week and managed to stay on track. Thank goodness.

This is one of the things I've come to like quite a bit about Weight Watchers: It's not really a diet. It makes keeping track of what you eat and being conscious of the choices you make when you eat very easy. There isn't anything you can't have, rather, it allows you to acknowledge how the choices you make at one meal should affect the choices you make at another meal in order to keep a healthy balance throughout the day and week. It also helps to encourage healthy eating by suggesting how many servings of water, fruits and vegetables, dairy and oils you should work into your daily points.

I am in this for the long haul and am loving every pound I lose and the results I see. It feels good and is incredibly rewarding.

Yes! I've lost 15.6 pounds so far!

Rolling Stone dividing Democrats

Just like MoveOn did a few months ago, Rolling Stone has decided to break from a long tradition of allowing Democrats to chose their candidate before throwing their support behind them. Rolling Stone has decided to endorse Obama before our party has chosen its nominee. As I wrote to MoveOn when they made their flip decision, I have again written to slam these organizations and their decisions that only serve to divide the Democratic Party and make winning the White House that more difficult.

"Didn't you learn a lesson from MoveOn.org? They overzelously chose to back Obama before the primaries were over and heard a mouthful from their members. And now you've done the same. What's wrong with letting the people decide who their Democratic candidate will be and then throwing your support behind the nominee? It's unfortunate that you're working to divide the party, which will only make winning the White House in November that much more difficult."

Both MoveOn and Rolling Stone have long traditions of backing the Democratic candidate for President, but have only given their endorsement to the candidate that won the nomination. Both of these organizations have decided to break with that tradition and use their influence to decide who the nominee will be. That is a change in policy I find destructive to our party. Although I can't find anything official, it appears MoveOn has backed off their Obama campaign as I can't find anything about Obama on their site now. The items related to the presidential race all refer to both Obama and Clinton. Perhaps speaking out made the difference. You can speak out and share your opinion with Rolling Stone by writing to letters@rollingstone.com and with MoveOn here.

Florida and Michigan MUST count

I can't believe my own party stripped its members of their right to have their vote count. If you're familiar with this story you'll know Florida and Michigan moved their primaries up resulting in the DNC stripping those states of their delegates. Since the Democratic and Republican nominees for President are chosen by delegate votes, which are determined by how the respective candidates did in their state during the primaries, the citizens in those states were stripped of their vote, and therefore, their voice. I am mad as hell at the DNC for this seemingly Republican attitude. I wrote the following email to the Democratic National Committee today:

"I stand 100% behind both the Governor of Florida and the Governor of Michigan in calling on the DNC to count the votes from those states' primaries. Our system relies on public opinion and our Constitution guarantees us the right to vote to share these opinions. Stripping the citizens of Florida and Michigan of their right to vote is simply un-Constitutional, especially when their right was taken away by some arbitrary rule making by the DNC. The DNC has no right what-so-ever to eliminate the voice of the people, and doing so will only divide our party. As a long standing Democrat, I can't imagine continuing to support this party if it continues to deny the rights of its party's members. This simply is unimaginable and unconscionable."

Furthermore, I, and I am sure many other Democrats, will call for the immediate removal of Howard Dean as our party leader if this issue is not resolved satisfactorily. I can't believe they created this scandal that will only serve to divide our party and ultimately risk our winning the White House in November. I urge you to write to the DNC and demand they count the votes from Florida and Michigan.

Hillraisers unite!

I have been unusually silent during the primaries so far, other than my expressing my outrage when MoveOn.org backed Obama (which I still think was stupid). I have been dumbfounded by the Bush-esque momentum Obama has gained over the past couple of months. I say Bush-esque because it's simply unbelievable that someone with his lack of experience and naivety has become so popular so fast. I just don't see the appeal. Unlike what he preaches, Obama is a politician like any other. Every time he says Hillary voted to go to war in Iraq, and the he didn't, is another game of dirty politics.

We know exactly what Hillary and all the other Democrats were voting for that day in the Senate. It was permission to act in an emergency, not an order to go to war. Bush, being the asshole that he is, ran with it after lying to Congress. He lied again by sending his cronies to push false intelligence that we were in immediate danger. Why is it that Bary Bonds and Roger Clemons are facing perjury charges and not Rumsfeld and Powell? I just don't get it. We were lied to... all of us. But no, Obama likes to say he never voted for that emergency measure.

Ask this: why didn't Obama vote for the Iraq war measure? He wasn't a frickin' Senator yet! He wasn't even in the Senate to vote. Duh you fuck, of course you didn't vote because you were still getting your ass wiped by your mama! And let me ask you this... of the circumstances presented to the Senate that day and the picture that was painted, Obama thinks it would have been smarter to vote no? What if it was real? He would rather we be left in harms way without a plan? I don't think so. It's this exact kind of inexperience that will doom us if Obama wins this election. You need to think and act quickly, but smartly and deliberately and Obama simply isn't capable of that responsibility... not yet. He very well could make a great president, but he needs more time, more experience, more wisdom.

Obama also likes to think he can change the way the game of politics is played. Good luck, buddy! No president could ever affect that change... it's up to Congress and the people to force those changes. It's great campaign fodder, but they are promises he has no ability to keep. I have news for Mr. Obama... this election is about far more than his naive promises and a vote he didn't even participate in.

Fortunately, the people of Rhode Island, Ohio and Texas saw that last night. I am so glad Hillary took these three states. It means a refreshed and renewed campaign, a spike strip in Obama's momentum and a ramp up of hers. The next six weeks to Pennsylvania will be long and arduous, and I can only hope the thick wool Obama has pulled over millions of eyes continues to fray and people see reality. I will continue to support Hillary with both my voice and my money until she wins the White House and takes our country back from the most destructive administration in history. I invite you to do the same.

Wicked weather

The weather here last night was pretty wicked. We we were under severe
thunderstorm warnings and a tornado watch for several hours. Heavy
rain, crazy thunder and lightning and strong winds slammed us for a while, and in the process, a tree between my yard and a neighbor's snapped in half. Crazy! We didn't hear or see it last night as the tree was on the garage side of the house where there are no windows or rooms. Fortunately neither my neighbor's nor my house were hit, and the tree is resting in the neighbor's yard.

It's funny, in a way, because my neighbor and I have both talked about taking that tree down in the past. We both agreed it should happen, but neither of us have done anything about it. It just so happens we have some landscapers coming next week to do some work... maybe they'll have a tree to chop up while they're at it.

Slow and steady now

I am continuing my weight loss journey and am happy to report I've lost another 2.4 pounds. I lost six pounds the first week, five the second and just over two the third. Weight Watchers says a healthy weight loss is about two pounds per week after the first two or three. I hope my body is beginning to get used to this new way of eating and being healthier. I am getting settled and am enjoying the challenge that lies ahead. It will be a long one, but I am anxious to continue the positive results.

Yes! I've lost 13.4 pounds so far!
