Rolling Stone dividing Democrats
Just like MoveOn did a few months ago, Rolling Stone has decided to break from a long tradition of allowing Democrats to chose their candidate before throwing their support behind them. Rolling Stone has decided to endorse Obama before our party has chosen its nominee. As I wrote to MoveOn when they made their flip decision, I have again written to slam these organizations and their decisions that only serve to divide the Democratic Party and make winning the White House that more difficult.
"Didn't you learn a lesson from MoveOn.org? They overzelously chose to back Obama before the primaries were over and heard a mouthful from their members. And now you've done the same. What's wrong with letting the people decide who their Democratic candidate will be and then throwing your support behind the nominee? It's unfortunate that you're working to divide the party, which will only make winning the White House in November that much more difficult."
Both MoveOn and Rolling Stone have long traditions of backing the Democratic candidate for President, but have only given their endorsement to the candidate that won the nomination. Both of these organizations have decided to break with that tradition and use their influence to decide who the nominee will be. That is a change in policy I find destructive to our party. Although I can't find anything official, it appears MoveOn has backed off their Obama campaign as I can't find anything about Obama on their site now. The items related to the presidential race all refer to both Obama and Clinton. Perhaps speaking out made the difference. You can speak out and share your opinion with Rolling Stone by writing to letters@rollingstone.com and with MoveOn here.
