The Recipe Box

I have rearranged The Recipe Box yet again. I have added labels to all the recipes and now they are categorized according to those labels down the right side. This will make finding something you're looking for quicker and easier. I've aslo enabled comments so you can let me and others know what you think of a certain recipe, or any tips or general comments you may have. Don't forget, there is a little envelope icon at the bottom right of each recipe. Click on this link to email the recipe to whomever you chose. Some new recipes have been added, including pumpkin ravioli and pumpkin pie. Very tasty! To access The Recipe Box click the link to the right. Enjoy!

Celebrate Repeal Day

Happy Repeal Day! It was 74 years ago today that prohibition ended thanks to the ratification of the 21st amendment.

On January 16, 1919 the 18th amendment was ratified, beginning the countdown to the end of alcohol sales, production and transportation as well as banning the import and export of "intoxicating liquors" in the United States. It was one year later, on January 16, 1920 the full power of the amendment took place and alcohol literally became illegal in the US. Organized crime picked up where once legal alcohol production left off and thus bootlegging was born. America's thirst for alcohol only grew stronger. On December 5, 1933 the 21st amendment was ratified which repealed the 18th amendment, putting an end to prohibition.

Celebrate by stopping by your local bar or tavern and have a toast with loved ones, friends and family. Enjoy your constitutional right to consume alcohol! Learn more about this momentous day here. Here's a toast to you all! Cheers!

Billy Gilman's Oklahoma

Some background first: American has a program on our video equipped aircraft called CBS Eye on American. One of the features of that program used to be a music video. Several years ago when I was flying domestic for AA the featured song/video was Billy Gilman's "Oklahoma." It was strange when it first appeared because we'd be walking through the aisle doing the service and see everyone with tears in their eyes. We weren't quite sure why... we could see the video, but we couldn't hear it so we didn't know exactly what was going on. So, when it came on one day I stopped, put on some ear phones and watched the video. Of course, I was no exception and had tears streaming down my face.

I was recently reminded of this video and searched for it on YouTube. I have found it and I thought I'd share it. It's a great song and story, but I warn you, it's sad. Happy sad, though. You'll have tears of joy. Enjoy it and share it.

BTW, if you want to know more about Billy go here and here. Billy is now 19 years old, but was 12 when he recorded Oklahoma (it wasn't until he was 13 that Oklahoma was released as a single and the video produced). Oklahoma is on Billy's 2000 album release One Voice.
