The Kingdom

Just got back from seeing this movie. It was really, really good. For any of you who liked Alias, especially Jennifer Garner, she's back on her game in this movie. The movie is a thinker, to, as it takes you inside Saudi Arabia and the waging war against western values and beliefs. The movie is frightening, for sure, but enlightening none the less. It scared the hell out of me because it seemed so real, but I loved it at the same time. Excellent, excellent, excellent.

As you may be able to tell, since I went to a movie today, I am feeling much better. I still have some soreness in my mouth, however, it is minimal. I am still very swollen, and that causes some discomfort. Not a big deal though. I still plan to lay low this coming week. I have plenty of class work to do so hopefully I can catch up and get ahead. It's good timing, really. At any rate, go check out The Kingdom. It kicked ass!

Puffy face

To say the least. I am actually very lopsided at the moment. One side is much puffier than the other. So far, I am doing all right. I was miserable yesterday morning for a short time (after I got home but before I had the meds). Now, however, my hydrocodone, 800mg motrin, antiobiotic and steroid are keeping me happy. I've been dining on pudding, applesauce, slim fast and yogurt so far. I am about to expand that menu to include jell-o, tomato soup and mashed potatoes. Yummy! I am so not in the mood to eat (maybe I'll lose a few pounds!) but I have to eat to take some of the meds, otherwise I'll get sick. And the thought of puking with stitches in the back of my mouth doesn't sound remotely appealing.

The extraction went ok. It was supposed to take an hour but ended up taking 1.5 hours. The bottom two presented a challenge as each of the teeth were hooked around the bone. The surgeon had to do some drilling to get the teeth out, and because of that, I can expect some extra swellingl Hooray! At least the pain isn't bad. The bleeding stopped last night and I haven't had problems with that. I did a warm salt water rinse a short time ago and there was just a little blood. The ice packs on my cheeks feel pretty damn good too. I did some talking on the phone earlier today, probably too much. It caused a little extra pain.

For whatever reason, maybe its the meds, but I am having the hardest damn time typing. So, before I lose my mind I'll finish up here and write another update tomorrow. Until then, thanks for thinking about me!

Misery countdown

Days Remaining: 1.

Shit. Tomorrow I go under the knife, or pliers, to get four wisdom teeth removed. I am just thrilled! I am not particularly nervous, but I am certainly not looking forward to it. I am not looking forward to the procedure itself, and I am not looking forward to the pain afterward. I am hopeful that the discomfort will be minimal. FYI, I am accepting donations of mashed potatoes, Campbell's To Go soups (smooth, no chunks) and milkshakes (chocolate and vanilla please). Should be good to go otherwise.

Did you know? Sofakitty says pineapple is a natural anti-inflammatory and has suggested I eat/drink lots of pineapple today. Hmm... I have a can of pineapple juice in the pantry, and I absolutely love to eat it. I guess I'll have to give it a try. Also, a co-worker of mine suggested I get the necessary pineapple via Pina Coladas. Now we're talking. Coconut rum, anyone?

Comebacks

Sometimes music from the past stages a renaissance for me, and this time it's Sarah McLachlan's Mirrorball. Mirrorball is a 1999 release and a compilation of her top hits. For whatever reason, the music is once again resonating with me and I am enjoying it immensely. There is one song on the album I don't recall paying much attention to when I first got it, but it sure is hitting home now and I absolutely love it. It's haunting, in a way, based on a recent experience of mine with a close friend, but it's fitting. It's also helping me move past that experience and I love that I can get lost in the music and McLachlan's powerful and soulful voice. The name of that song is Do What You Have To Do. Check out Mirrorball on iTunes and let me know what you think.

One artist who is constantly staging a comeback with me is Tori Amos. And it's not so much that I lose her, I am just constantly revolving from one album to another as my favorite. She's always on my radar and it's unusual for a week to go by where I'm not belting out one of her songs in my car. Has any music staged a comeback with you lately? Tell me about it. It may just jog my memory and make a comeback with me, too.

Shout out

Howdy Richard. How's Reno? I wish I were going to be there for the balloon races this weekend. I have a long memory of attending the annual event with my mom and later college friends. Are you a fan? Hopefully the next time I pass through RNO we can chat more and catch up. Until then...

(Clarification: I had initially posted "Howdy Richard from San Juan, Puerto Rico." Ok, so that was confusing. I was in San Juan when I wrote the post and was saying hi to a friend and former co-worker, Richard, in Reno. Richard was/is not in PR. Sep 21)
