Today's Question

Question: How many members of the Bush Administration does it take to change a light bulb?

Answer: TEN.

1. One to deny that a light bulb needs to be changed;

2. One to attack the patriotism of anyone who says the light bulb needs to be changed

3. One to blame Clinton for burning out the light bulb;

4. One to tell the nations of the world that they are either for changing the light bulb or for eternal darkness;

5. One to give a billion dollar no-bid contract to Halliburton for a new light bulb;

6. One to arrange a photograph of Bush, dressed as a janitor and standing on a step ladder, under the banner "Bulb Accomplished";

7. One administration insider to resign and in detail reveal how Bush was literally "in the dark" the whole time;

8. Another one to viciously smear # 7;

9. One surrogate to campaign on TV and at rallies on how George Bush has had a strong light bulb-changing policy all along;

10. And finally, one to confuse Americans about the difference between screwing in a light bulb and screwing the country. And after all is said and done, no one will notice that they never actually managed to change the light bulb.

Noah Boo

We have some sad news to share. Our little Noah Boo died yesterday morning. He was truly the child of the family, a toddler in so many ways and we will miss him deeply. He fell ill very suddenly and died at the hospital. We are not sure what happened yet, but our vet hopes to get some answers for us in the next week. His passing is a shock for us as he was an otherwise happy, healthy cat. We are struggling with his loss and trying to make sense of it. Joey, Noah's brother, seems to be very sad. He knew his brother was ill and has been looking for him. Our hearts are broken for him. All we can do is cuddle him extra and make him feel comfortable.

For now, we'll take it a day at a time and remember all the fun we had with our little "meat." Boo boo, we'll miss you. We love you!

Blogger slacker

Ok, I know my last post was a cop-out because I didn't have to put much thought into it, but I hope you watched and enjoyed the video. Pink's song Mr. President is good... the message even better.

I don't have any good excuse for remaining silent for so long... just disinterest I guess. Nothing provacative to say. Political postings will probably ramp up over the next several months as we head into a Presidential election year. Nothing like politics to get me going.

Other than working a lot, SpyC and I have been spending time getting our acre of land looking good. We've revamped the garden in the front of the house and are planning two new ones. We're also looking in to having the back yard cleared out of a bunch of under brush so that we can really show case a beautiful magnolia tree there. There's probably fifty trees or more in the back yard, and being able to show off the magnolia with out all of the under brush is something we're really excited about. We recently purchased new patio furniture for our back deck, which has a great view of the magnolia. It's a great place to enjoy an outdoor meal.

We've also been doing little improvements here and there like adding a blind and valance in the kitchen, new bedding in the guest room and soon new ceiling fans in our bedroom and my office (the existing fans will be moved to the guest room and Beth's office). Our front porch is looking good with new white rockers, hanging ferns and a couple of container pots. We're really getting into this southern living thing and enjoying what the climate allows in terms of gardening.

There are a couple of things I have been meaning to write about, so I will post them separately to avoid this entry becoming too long and boring. Well, I don't know about the boring part, but you know what I mean.

Dinner Savvy

A few weeks ago Beth and I, along with some of our friends here, went to a place called Dinner Savvy. It's a business where you prepare several meals for yourself in their kitchen and then bring the food home to freeze and cook as wanted. You pick your meals ahead of time from their monthly menu, they stock all the ingredients and have the recipes on hand for the chosen meals and you get to put them together.

It's a lot of fun because there is no clean-up (they do it all for you) and you don't have to worry about shopping for the ingredients. It's all right there and ready. We have enough food for about twelve dinners with left overs and paid about $120. Not a bad deal if you ask me. The price is normally $240 and you pick twelve meals. But each meal serves 4-6 people. Since it's just SpyC and I, one meal is actually two meals plus left overs. So we split our twelve with a friend, and as a result, split the price. And we still walked away with 12 meals. Love it! The menu changes every month and we've all vowed to go back this month. In fact, we'll probably make it a monthly routine.

We've cooked several of the meals already and have enjoye each one of them. So far we've tried the marinated flank steak, greek chicken and teriyaki salmon. They also include sides like rice pilaf for free. Those have been quite tasty, too. We also got three molten chocolate cakes, but SpyC ate all three. Can you believe it? I didn't get a single bite. Pig.

Beach Cruiser

Two weeks ago we went for a ride down to Wilmington and checked out the sites there. It's a neat historic town located on the Cape Fear River, just off the Atlantic Coast. It's really quite pretty there. One of the nearby beach towns, Carolina Beach, has a section of beach for four-wheel drive vehicles. At first I thought it was sad people were allowed to drive on the beach, but after I realized I was in my 4 X 4 vehicle, it sounded cool.

We paid the $10 price (it is a city park), put it in four-wheel drive and off we went. We had such a blast I had to stop a couple of times because we were laughing our asses off. Little moguls were formed in the sand and driving over them, even at less than ten miles per hour, caused the car to bottm out the shocks sending us into fits of hysteria. We still laugh about it. The cool thing is you can camp there overnight and that is something I'd like to do. It is redneck heaven for sure. But there's nothing wrong with being a redneck every now and then. Is there?
