Moving on...

I have had so much to say this past month, but the last snafu with the spell check left me dreading writing an entry. But I decided it was finally time to toughen up and face my fears, one-on-one. Spell check: go to HELL! Ok, now I feel better. And as I said in my last post, I will no longer use spell check on these entries, so you're just gonna have to live with the typos. If something is so out of wack you can't figure it out, ask me. We can ponder my intentions together, maybe even come up with something better then the original. There. Rant: Done.

Let's see... where to begin. It has become increasingly clear the past month the Mercury is on its way out. We were planning to replace it sometime in the next year, but that time frame has been shortened to the next month. I have been test driving cars like mad the past month and a half. We're looking at small to mid-sized SUVs, and if I haven't test driven it, I've at least looked at it. We've come to the conlcusion we want to buy used because the initial depreciation is killer... so not worth it. I've become fast friends with the folks at Carmax. I like it there because I can see and compare so many makes and models all in one spot, even test drive them. If anyone has any good or bad stories about Carmax, please let me know.

I have also test driven new cars. I have two top picks right now, new: Chevy Equinox and used: Kia Sorento. The Equinox is too new to be found used, at least at a good price. For the most part, the test driving and decision making process have been fairly painless. I was pleasantly surprised by no pressure sales associates at Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Honda, Mercury, Land Rover and Carmax. I was not so impressed with the folks at Hyundai and Kia. It seems the car buying experience is slowly changing. Thank you Saturn!

Here's a new one for ya: when I test drove a new Kia Sorento, with Kanako, I was rear-ended at an intersection. That's right, I was on a test drive and got slammed into from behind; it didn't even feel good. Fortunately, I was not at fault and had no involvement what so ever, I didn't even get a copy of the police report. Whew... I was nervous for a bit. I knew it wasn't my fault, but I was unsure of my responsibility for the $31,000 car I was sitting in. And yes, Kia's cost $31,000! That's why I want to buy one used. Also good was there was no damage to the Sorento, minus a small scracth on the trailer hitch. The guy who hit me was driving a PT Cruiser -- his radiator was punctured, spewing fluid everywhere. After being very unlucky, I got lucky. No harm to me, physically or financially. Of course, the salesman tried to sell me the car. I must admit the car held up VERY well in this accident, and it earned big kudos for that. But even if I had intended on buying that day, I wouldn't have after being in an accident. I couldn't think clearly for several hours.

If I were to buy right this minute, it would be a Kia Sorento I am looking at at Carmax. It's been listed on the website for a little while now, but I am getting nervous... cars don't last long there. They have several Sorentos available, but only one that meets my specifications. Fingers crossed. We hope to make a final decision by the end of March.
