Silent blog...

Hello father, it's been 12 days since my last blogfession.

Finally home, and strangley, about to leave town, again! I had originall returned home from the upper midwest on July 2, but left the next day to fly my first trip as a St. Louis based flight attendant. I ended that trip on Sunday, but was unable to make it back to Vegas and flew back to Minneapolis, where was. We intended to come home Monday, but the flights were so full we opted for Tuesday. We waited six hours in the MSP airport yesterday and finally made it to Dallas, where we waited another two hours and literally got the last seat on the plane to Vegas. We arrived home in Vegas about midnight last night. It all made for a very long day of airport appreciation. The flights hadn't originally been so heavily booked, but weather on Sunday in Dallas, and severe weather in the Chicago area for the past four days has really messes things up. I was starting to think we wouldn't ever get out. But we did, and boy are we glad. I leave on the red-eye tonight to go back to St. Louis to fly another trip... should be home Saturday afternoon.

Wisonsin is an absolutely beautiful state - as green as Ireland. The wooded areas are so dense you can't see but twenty or so feet into them. It's truly amazing. Beth's grandparents live on Lipsie Lake outside of Spooner. Like Minnesota, there's enough lakes for everyone to have their own. They're everywhere, big and small. We paid a visit to the biggest one of all, Lake Superior, and took a ferry over to Madeline Island from the mainland and the town of Bayfield. It's a cute little island (it's the largest of the 22 Apostle Islands) with a little mainstreet and a great state park - Big Bay.

We also toured the entire area around Spooner, including many small towns like Minong, Trego, Shell Lake, Hertel and Siren. Two years ago, a few days before out wedding a massive tornado touched down near Hertel and practically leveled all of Siren. The tornado continued all the way to Spooner, covering some 30 miles in about 30 minutes. We drove through the countryside where the tornado hit and I can't even begin to describe the way it looked. Of course, it's all cleaned up now and the buildings rebuilt, but the trees and vegetation still paint a very vivid picture of the destruction that occured that day. I was in absolute awe.

We visited a dairy in the small town of Falun that one the title of the world's best cheese. It figures it comes from Wisconsin. It goes without saying the cheese was delicious. I tried smoke string cheese and tradition Wisonsin cheddar cheese curds. Yum! Also while there, Beth and I took a drive with her grandpa in his old 1940 Chevy Mester Deluxe. That was a fun ride, and we spotted a bear while out, too. I drove her grandpa's 1952 and 1959 John Deere tractors, those huge ones that make all the noise. Certainly nothing modern about 'em, but very fun to drive. We went on a couple of pontoon boat rides around Lipsie, I saw a bunch of deer while there and I also saw my first fire fly, or lightning bug, as they call them. In all, it was a great trip and I can't wait to return next summer.

Works is ok, despite the rumors that are always running amuck. The latest one is American is going to close the St. Louis hub, a month after transferring one-thousand flight attendants there. I doubt it, but anything is possible. Flying out of St. Louis is a throw back to Reno Air. The aircraft are very similar to the ones we had at Reno, the base is small enough to have a family feel and at least one-hundred former Reno Air flight attendants are now based in St. Louis. I keep running into familiar faces I haven't seen for years. It'e been nice so far. I hope it stays that way.

I saw Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde on July 2. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie... just as funny as the first one. It's kind of nice to walk into a theatre without expectations, not looking to be moved but just have a good time, and this movie was just the ticket. Good fun, and with good friends, even better. By the way, it makes me wanna have a hot dog real bad. Don't worry, Paulette doesn't go hungry.
