Let's add salt to our wounds...

I found out yesterday I will be attending training in Dallas, again, on June 6 and 7 to become qualified to fly the Boeing 777. That plane is the Cadillac of them all, so I am very excited about it. The salt? The same guy who belittled and harrassed me in international training is in my 777 class, too! I can't escape him. I am sure it will be just fine since I was able to handle him for the whole week we were together after the incident, but it would be nice just to be away from him.

I have not heard back yet from my union regarding what is going to happen. I think they are attempting to contact him now, and based on his response and reaction to the allegation, the union is going to decide how to proceed from there. I am not sure what I want to become of it, but I do know I want him to realize his behavior was unprofessional, short sited and downright harrassment. It will be interesting to see him in Dallas again since I am sure the saga will have played out by then. It will be interesting to say the least.

For more information on the Boeing 777, check out Boeing's website. For pictures, check out Airliners.net

As Jenn said, "Going to the chapel...."

I am here in Gardnerville after a very long day. Local time is 12:37am Friday morning! Ick. I arrived yesterday about 1:30pm and had to come back to Reno with my dad late last night to pick up my aunt Dynie who flew in from Burbank. She arrived about 10:30. Things seem to be coming together quite well for the wedding. I went and tried my tux on to make sure it fits. Everything is great! And, I must say, I look damn good! Maybe you'll see a picture here someday.

I haven't talked to my brother today, so I don't really know how he is feeling. I know he is getting excited, but I don't know if butterflies or nervousness is setting in yet or not. I will be staying with him tomorrow night, so I will surely know then. I am driving up to Lake Tahoe later this morning (after I've slept!) with my dad. We're going up to help out with set-up and decorations. The rehearsal and dinner are later on at 5pm.

Unfortunately, there are thunderstorms and rain showers forecasted for the entire area Friday and Saturday, so who knows how this will effect everything. The good news is, the reception is being held in a tent, so, if need be, the ceremony can be moved there, too. That was the same back up for my wedding. If you want any details about the wedding, check out Brian's webpage for more info. Brian and Rene will be heading out on their honeymoon Tuesday to the sunny Caribbean, visiting the islands of St. Lucia and Martinique. I am sure they will have a wonderful time, what they remember of it!

Thank goodness for Monday!

You don't here that too often, do you? After a busy weekend, Beth and I are both very glad to me home alone, only to clean and do laundry...it won't be as spicy as you might think, and relax. We had a great time at Jann's paernt's house, and lunch with Vivian was a good time. Although, poor Vivan got sick later in the day from a pain killer she had taken earlier in the day. She's still recovering. Poor thing.

Dinner last night with Beth's parents was a lot of fun, too. Carter has been on a big cooking kick lately, and has been watching the Food Network and more specifically, Emeril, more than he has been looking at a computer screen lately. That's a big deal! Well, it has paid off quite well, for us anyway. We had home made fried calamari last night AND coconut shrimp all thanks to Carter's new deep fat frier. Prior to that we had the standard chips, cheese and salsa. For dinner we had barbequed prime rib, homemade creamed corn, my famous (or not so famous?) garlic mashed potatos, homemade macaroni salad and bread. It was a meal to die for, and I nearly did. After consuming too much of everything, on top of my four Stoli Citronas, my stomach was about to burst. Fortunately, the pig fest lasted over three hours, so the food had a little time to settle before I stuffed more in. I ended up on the couch trying to stretch my stomach so I wouldn't be so uncomfortable.

After dinner and desert was over, the neighbors headed home, except for one. Beth and I, her parents and Bob ended up sitting out on the driveway talkin' away until midnight. It was finally time for us all to hit the sack. Needless to say, the drive home was a long one.

Finally home again, and this time for over a week!

After my nasty incident with another crew member on Monday (see below), I am glad to be away from him and the situation, and comfy at home again. I got home last night about 10:30. I flew from Dallas to San Jose so I could meet up with some friends for dinner and then flew home to Las Vegas. Yesterday started very early for me when I got up at 6am Central time. We headed straight for the pool to perform s simulated "ditching". We had to evacuate into the pool and then haul our asses into the life raft. It was really a lot of fun. I hope that is the only time I haul my ass up in a life raft, but then again, if I'm hauling my ass into a life raft, I survived impact. I suppose things could be worse. Hmmm...

I will be flying to Boston on June 3rd to sit reserve on the 4th. I am anxious to see where I might fly first, but am hoping it is not to Europe right away. I would rather fly to the Caribbean to get myself more comfortable with the base before I have to worry about the very strict customs forms we do for Europe. Also, flying to Europe there is a lot more responsibilty and the service is much more elaborate. And since I haven't done any of it yet, I would rather get my feet wet on something a little more simple. I'll let you know how it goes.

Tonight we are having dinner with Janniffer and her husband Paul, along with Jann's parents for Paul's birthday. We hope to have lunch today with Beth's grandma Vivian. Tomorrow night we'll be having dinner with Dale and Carter. The weekend is full of social engagements, but it's nice to be home again.

Back at the charm farm and another early morning survived...

Our instructors kept class moving so I was able to keep my head off the table. The information we are learning right now is stuff that I haven't had any experience in such as all the forms Pursers deal with on international flights for things like customs and bonded liquor. We also talked about the social make-up of the countries we will be flying to. That was very helpful information.

And that brings me to my next topic. I have a way of being attacked lately, only this time, it was by a fellow crew member and it was done verbally. I'll give you the skinny. I was called a liar and threatened with my job all in the space of five minutes, by someone who was listening in on a random comment who wasn't even a part of the conversation. So, what happened?

We were talking about the different types of Jewish passengers we would have on board, and what some of them might request/require of crew members. As you may know, male Jewish passengers may ask a female flight attendant if she is "clean" or not. He is referring to whether or not it is her time of the month, and if so, she cannot serve him his Kosher meal. We were discussing how it would be best for men to serve all Kosher meals to avoid the potentially embarassing question. I brought up that if there were no male flight attendants on board or available to serve the meal, and that if the flight attendant was very uncomfortable with the question and wasn't prepared to tell the passenger and the ten or so others within ear shot whether she was on the rag or not, that she could serve the meal to the passenger whether she was on the rag or not. What you don't know won't hurt you, right? Now, I wasn't suggesting that this was the optimal situation. I believe all attempts should be made to respect the passengers' religious beliefs.

Well, this guy launched into me about how I would go against someone's devout religious beliefs and simply tell him what he wants to hear. I quickly reminded this guy that I wouldn't ever be faced with the situation since I am not likely to be on the rag anytime soon. So then he went on about how I was a liar, and that there are two things you could be fired for in this company: 1) lying and 2) steeling. Now I was forced to support my opinion, which, is all it was in the first place. First of all, I fully believe in respecting culture. But, I also believe in freedom OF religion and freedom FROM religion. At what point is one person's beliefs more important than anothers? Also, why is it that women are expected to give up personal information when a man asks her too, simply to satisfy his own religious beliefs? In my opinion, that could be constituted as sexual harrassment if a flight attendant were to serve me a meal and I ask her if she is clean or not. Anyway, this whole thing is not about being right or wrong.

It's about how this guy, my fellow crew member, belittled me in front of others, called me a liar repeatedly and threatened me with my job. What makes his opinion better than mine? So, after consulting with several friends, I have been instructed to contact our Professional Standards committee and file a complaint of harrassment. Anytime someone belittles you for your opinion or belief, whether right or wrong, and constantly criticizes you for that opinion, is harrassment. Trust me when I tell you I am leaving out half of what he said to me. He said that if we were going to be based together (which we will be) that we need to work this out. He also said the "senior mammas" won't stand for this. Well, little does he know I fly with the "senior mammas" all the time, since I fly Purser. The flight attendants I fly with often have been flying longer than I have been alive. And since he forced me too, I told him the "senior mammas" at my base like me very much, and in fact, am very popular among the crews who fly transcons in San Francisco.

The more I think about it and talk with others about it, it becomes more and more clear that this is undo harrassment, and that this individual has no right to belittle me, call me names and defame my character. Not only that, he threatened me, with my jobb and how well I would be accepted at base. I don't know, I've got myself all worked up again.

Anyway, I am going to see if he approaches me about it again tomorrow or not, and if not, I will contact Professional Standards. It is not a disciplinary action, rather, it is a group of flight attendant's who help sort out disagreements with one another. I don't want the guy to agree with me, I just want him to know he has no right to behave the way he did, and treat me the way he did.

Please, tell me what you think in my Message Board. Thanks.

On the road again...

I will be heading back to Dallas bright and early tomorrow morning for the rest of my training marathon. This week I will be learning how to perform American's International Flagship Service and over water procedures, you know, in case we have to ditch in the ocean. Sounds like fun...I can hardly wait. I will be there all week and won't return home until Friday evening.

Amber is on her way back to California! As a matter of fact, Amber's almost there. She'll be here in Vegas tomorrow night and will hit the road to California on Monday. She is in Albuquergue (sp?, huh?) right now. She says her drive is going well and is excited to get home.

I read on Jenn's blog she had a little movie fest this weekend. Well, I kind of did, too. Beth and I stayed up real late last night to watch Mission: Impossible II and Sophie's Choice. What a combo, huh? I hadn't seen either one, although I knew what Sophie's Choice was about.

Ugh, I am so not looking forward to 4:45am tomorrow morning, the moment my alarm sounds off.

Another early morning...

Dan needed to be at the airport at 5am to catch his flight home to Reno via Phoenix. I got back about 5:40 and decided to sleep until 6:30 before getting up and putting things out for the garage sale. After doing a quick drive around the communtity, it became very clear we would be one of the TEN homes out of 450 that were going to participate. It was the worst garage sale event ever. We literally had five people stop by, all of which bought something except for one. Our grand total for 3 hours: $7.55, plus we gave away 50 cents worth of junk. Our original plan was to box whatever we didn't sell and take it to a thrift store, but since we harldly sold anything, we decided to try again next weekend at Dale and Carter's house. They live in prime time garage sale country, and we've done well there before. Plus, we still have stuff at there house from before we've been wanting to sell. So, we'll give it one more go before we ditch it all.

Our neighbors invited us over to a cook-out tonight where they promised a lot of hot dogs and hamburgers. Sounds like good stuff, so we'll be headed over shortly.

What happened to reading, writing and arithmatic? A California vice-principal goes on a panty check...

Must..........keep..........eyes..........open... :o *yawn*

After waking up at four AM this morning, I think I am ready for a nap. The 6am alarm in Dallas (4am Pacific) came all too early, and my body let me know it. It all payed off since I was back in Vegas at one...enough time for a full day--if only I had the energy for it. A300 training was fine, although I felt like I was becoming a flight attendant all over again. Most of the information was remedial and stuff that doesn't change from plane to plane. I hope to get qualified on the Boeing 777 later this month or next...that plane is the mack-daddy of them all!

Our housing development is having a community garage sale tomorrow morning. Beth has already got a large box of junk labeled and ready to set out. We also have a whole bunch of junk in our garage. We'll finally get rid of all the junk we didn't know what to do with when we moved. We prolly won't make much money since we don't sell things for over a buck, usually. It's a fun way to get rid of stuff, and then you go to your neighbors house with the five bucks you just made and buy five more bucks worth of junk...and so it goes 'round... For all you junkies, Check out USAToday for an interesting article about the ultimate garage sale. It tells you how to furnish an entire room from items found on the curb.

Time at home is always short lived when you work on the road...

Tomorrow I begin my marathon training in Dallas as I train to become an international flight attendant. Tomorrow and the next day I will become qualified on the A300 airplane, and then will be home again this weekend. Next week I will be trained in over water procedures and American's International Flagship Service (food service). What fun the next several days will be. It's much better than sitting on reserve though. Anything is better than that.

Hooray for good news! I got a new computer and flat screen monitor! I have stuck with the tried, true and tested eMachine, which I owned previously. The new model, T4200, sports a Pentium 4 processor, 256 mb of ram and a 60 gb hard drive. My new flat screen monitor is a Mag LT565. Hooray for good equipment and reasonable prices.

Finally home after a long week in the air...

My body was quite happy when I stepped out of the airport today in Las Vegas as the 90+ degree heat permeated the air and carressed my skin. I realized, at that moment, I had become a true Las Vegan. I had realized that the hot summer sun was as therapeutic as taking a hot shower on a cold winter night. Ahh, the joys of being home again.

I returned from New York last night to the Bay Area from what was my last official trip as an SFO based flight attendant, and also my last domestic run. Although I am looking forward to the challenges something new presents, I will miss the good people I have come to know well the past three years while at SFO. I am sure our paths will cross again in the future, but it's always sad to leave familiar faces and places behind. ;-(

On a much more sad and somber note, Dan's grandpa passed away this past week. Dan has returned to Las Vegas with his family to mourn their loss, and also to pay tribute and to remember what a funny and courageous man Dan's grandpa was. Please keep Dan and his family in your thoughts.

Mommy's here! But, she's about to leave! ;-(

It's sad that time goes by so fast. There are many times when time can't go fast enough, and others when time goes too fast. Mommy's plane leaves today at 5:20. We had a nice time though. Mom's main reason for coming to Vegas was to get a dress for my brother's wedding. And, she was successful. Mom arrived about noon on Sunday, and her, Beth and I met up with Dale and Carter for lunch at the "Thee Angry Wives Pub". Clever name, I thought. We had a nice time. Then, mom, Beth and I headed out to Primm to the Fashion Outlet Mall...one of the best outlets malls I've ever been too! Great outlet prices. Beth and I love going there because there is a Pottery Barn and Wiliams~Sonoma outlet there. Always trouble... Then we headed back into town to the Venetian, which I had only been to when it first opened and mom had never been.

We visisted the Hermitage Museum there and saw original oil on canvas paintings by Picasso, Cezanne, Renoir, Kandinsky, Matisse, Bonnard and Modigliani among others. Quite an impressive display for Las Vegas, although none of the paintings were among the artist's most famous. We then browsed the Grand Canal Shoppes before eating a very nice Cinco de Mayo dinner at Taqueria Canonito on the Grand Canal.

Yesterday, mom and I hit the stores for some real shopping: all the shopping she had come to do. We first went to David's Bridal where she was "quaranteed to find something" and did. After two hours, mom walked out with the perfect dress and we will be headed back there today to pick up the shoes that are being specially dyed to match the dress. After David's, we headed to the Galleria Mall and browsed and had lunch. Then, we headed to Belz Outlet World, this mega outlet mall right in Las Vegas. Although it is huge (over 155 stores!) it is a typical outlet mall where prices are usually far from outlet, although good deals can be found. We hit several stores and after several hours headed home. Once we snatched Beth up, we headed out again to Costco and eventually dinner at Gardunos, a delicious Mexican resteraunt in the new Palms Hotel and Casino. The food and atmosphere were awesome! And that brings us to today...the saddest day...

Mom and I are going to meet Beth for lunch at Beth's school, then mom and I are going to FedEx to ship all the stuff she bought while here home, and then we have other errands like picking up the shoes before I drop her at the airport around 3:30. It's sad, but 3:30 is only 5.5 hours away...yo estoy muy triste! It's been a nice three days though, and great to spend them with my mom. Hopefully, I can get her and dad to come down here a little more often then they have in the past.

Still off to work...

My latest trip to New York was a relief over past since I was working in the first class galley, and not Purser. There are times I get burned out on the Purser thing because I bare the responsibility of everything that happens in the cabin. Even though we were almost full in first class coming back from New York, it was still a nice change. Now, I am playing the reserve game again. But, good news is I only sit reserve this month 6 days due to all the training I have in Dallas for international flying. And, next month, I will be on reserve again, but I have two weeks of vacation at the end of June, so I will still get out of most of it! Yeah!

Mom is coming to Vegas on Sunday! I am so excited about that. There have been a few changes in our house since she was last there, just decorating things, and I am excited for her to see those changes. The biggest being the downstairs bathroom. Beth and I are really happy with the way that turned out. Someday I will put a picture on the house webpage. I know I haven't updated that thing in a million years. Someday...

Dan's grandpa is still in the hospital. He has good days and bad days, and Dan isn't real sure when his grandpa will make it home again. Dan, on the other hand, will be returning home on Saturday. He has been in Vegas for two weeks straight. I hope to get to see Dan for a moment tomorrow, as I will be home sometime in the afternoon (I hope) and Dan will be taking the red-eye on America West tomorrow night. We'll see...
