Well, I see Jenn is back in Portland, and I am sure Amber and Chris made it home Monday night. What a weekend we all had here in Las Vegas together! It was so much fun! Beth and I started the weekend out by picking up Amber, Chris and Jenn at the airport around 3:00 on Saturday afternoon. We took everyone out to see our house, and then took them to Bally's where they were staying. About an hour later we met up for dinner and went to P.F. Chang's, one of our most favorite places to eat at. Then, we went back to Bally's to get ready to go clubbing!
We went to Studio 54 at the MGM Grand, but the line was hopelessly long (Madonna was in town that night with her "Drowned World Tour," and we didn't make it there in time to beat the concert getting out!) so we went to Mandalay Bay's Rum Jungle. It, too, had a good line so then we wondered over to the House of Blues, where we had a drink at the bar. The service at HOB was crappy as usual, and we left after one drink. We decided to head over to New York New York for a late night dessert. We wondered around New York New York for a little bit and then cabbed it back to Bally's. This is when the night got really fun!
We hopped in the cab at NY NY and took off. Our cabby was rambling about the meter and how much it would cost us and on and on, and we all just kind of listened half asleep and nodded. Then I decided to change the subject for him. I asked him if he had ever been on HBO's Taxi Cab Confessions. He said no, but knew cabbies who had. He then engaged in a conversation about fares having sex in his cab, how much they pay him not to look, and the tips he gives them for preventing a mess which would dirty his cab's interior. He also showed us a healthy stack of industrial looking wet wipes he keeps on hand to clean up a mess should a fare not follow his advice on how to prevent one in the first place. Needless to say, we got out of the cab laughing and wishing the ride wasn't over. I wondered if the group getting in the cab after we got out would get to enjoy the same topic of conversation. FYI, if you need tips on how not to "dirty" your car, you can ask Chris, Amber, Jenn, Beth or me and we could help you out!
The next morning came all too soon as Chris and Amber had a 10 A.M. appointment with the House of Blue's Gospel Singers and their Sunday brunch, and Jenn and I were meeting a high school friend of ours who lives here in Las Vegas for breakfast. I met Jenn, Chris and Amber at 9:30 at Bally's, headed over to Mandalay Bay to drop Chris and Amber off and then Jenn and I headed to breakfast. We made a pit stop at Walgreen's so Jenn could buy some journal materials (after the cab ride the night before, Jenn quickly realized she needed to document this trip with more than pictures) and bottled water that didn't cost $4.50 per bottle (the price of a bottle at Bally's). Then to breakfast. We met Alicia's "boyfriend" of two years whom she met while in film school in North Carolina. We all talked about the good 'ol days of high school, caught each other up on the dirt we had heard about classmates and filled each other up with the latest in our own lives. Breakfast lasted over three hours! What a great time that was. It was nice to have Jenn, Alicia and I back together. We were three of a group of four (we were missing Sean) who spent a lot of time together in high school, and it was the first time the three of us had been back together since.
After breakfast, Jenn and I swung home and picked up Beth to meet Chris and Amber at The Forum at Caesar's Palace. There, we shopped a bit and had dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. Love that place! The food was great, although our waiter was a dud. It happens. Then we went to Lake Bellagio at the Bellagio to watch the fountain. That thing is beautiful. Last I knew, it's the largest and tallest fountain in the world. The fountain sits in the lake and spreads from end to end. The fountain is choreographed with music and the result is incredible -- it sends chills down your spine! Then we headed over to Paris Las Vegas for some good 'ol fashioned Crepes. Boy, those things sure are good. After sitting and chatting for a while we called it a night at around 11 P.M. since we all had another early morning and were getting pretty worn out.
The next day I met Chris, Amber and Jenn at 9 A.M. and we headed over to the Rio for their "Best of Las Vegas" Buffet. I had heard about how good it was numerous times, but had never been. The food was delicious! Amber gave us all instructions on how to eat a crab so that we could pull the meat out of the crab's legs in one whole piece. The advice made for a rather clean, and very delicious crab eating fest! We indulged ourselves to the limit, and then we had dessert! After breakfast, we headed over to the MGM Grand, where we went to Coca Cola World and Stephen Spielberg's Game Works. Coca Cola World wasn't what it used to be, there used to be a Coke Museum that was a blast, but that's been closed. Now, there is just a two story store with everything Coke, literally. We did, however, get to enjoy an ice cold Coke in one of the original-design glass bottles. We then went to Game Works where we all signed up to go rock climbing on their indoor wall. Usually there is a $10 fee to climb, but it was free that day and we all said, "What the heck!" It was a blast, although none of us made it to the top. The damn thing is over four floors high, so don't knock us! It was fun, although very exhausting!
We decided that it was time to indulge once again, and went to Olio's, which is a really cool, futuristic Gellato shop in the MGM. Yummy! We then went and got a picture of Jenn, Chris and Amber as Las Vegas Show Girls. That was pretty funny! No doubt Jenn will be sharing many, many pictures on her site from the trip, including that one. It was now time for Chris and Amber to head to the airport. Jenn and I dropped them off with a farewell. Jenn and I went home to drop her stuff off and veg for a few minutes when the phone rang. It was Beth, and her car had died. No surprise! Carter and I headed for her rescue, and about two hours later we came strolling home behind a tow truck carrying Beth's car. Beth had been at school getting some things ready for the week, and was on her way home when the car died. After all this drama, we had a quick BBQ hamburger dinner and Jenn and I were off again, this time back to New York New York. I had earlier talked Jenn into paying the $10 ticket price to ride the Manhattan Express Roller Coaster at NY NY. So, here we were. The roller coaster was awesome, as usual, and I think Jenn enjoyed it! I hope, anyway! Jenn and I then went downstairs and played nickels, and lots of them. I ran out and Jenn had a whole bucket full, so after I played some of hers I went to the Bar at Times Square to listen to the music from the two dueling pianists inside. They were great! We got home about 2 A.M.
The alarm rang all too soon at 4A.M., when we had to get up again. Jenn's plane left at 6A.M. and we needed to stop at Krispy Kreme's so Jenn could take a treat home and to work. Five dozen later (for the price of two!), Jenn was on her way. I got to keep one dozen, and Jenn took the other four with her. I see from her blog she is home, and made it with all four dozen! I had warned her about getting mugged for the doughnuts. It sounds like it was attempted, but Jenn made it!
All in all, it was a great weekend. I think we all needed it more than we knew, and enjoyed it immensly. I now, am off to one heck of a month ahead, working more than I ever have before. We'll see how it goes!
